The Toronto Blue Jays got a tough win over the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday at Rogers Centre with the Blue Jays picking up the W 3 to 2. It was one heck of a game that folks with Blue Jays tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow (6.00 ERA) got the win, while Matt Garza (3.08 ERA) took the loss for the Rays. Brandon Morrow went 7 solid innings for the Blue Jays, allowed 3 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 2 walks and one strikeout. Also pitching for the Blue Jays was Scott Downs (3.00), and Shawn Camp (2.57). The Rays’s starter Matt Garza went 6.1 innings, allowed 10 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Randy Choate (6.59), Dan Wheeler (3.00), and Joaquin Benoit (0.00) also pitched for the Rays. With the win, Morrow’s record goes to 4-4, while Garza is at 5-4. Kevin Gregg earned the save for the Blue Jays, bringing his saves up to 14.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Blue Jays scored 11 hits and committed no errors. Aaron Hill led the Blue Jays in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Vernon Wells’s 2 hits, and Fred Lewis with 2. Lyle Overbay had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Rays didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Rays managed 2 runs, 6 hits and no errors.
