The Tampa Bay Rays narrowly defeated the Oakland Athletics yesterday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum with the Rays coming out on top 3 to 2. It was a solid match that aficionados with Rays tickets won’t soon forget.
Rays pitcher Matt Garza (3.62 ERA) got the win, while Dallas Braden (3.49 ERA) took the loss for the Athletics. Matt Garza went 7.2 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Joaquin Benoit (1.39). The Athletics’s starter Dallas Braden went 6 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Henry Rodriguez (3.31), Michael Wuertz (4.75), and Andrew Bailey (1.52) also pitched for the Athletics. With the win, Garza’s record goes to 13-7, while Braden is at 8-9. Rafael Soriano earned the save for the Rays, bringing his saves up to 37.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Rays scored 5 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Rays, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Athletics didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Athletics scored 2 runs, 6 hits and no errors.
